Wondering what, exactly, should go in your School Report Card? Below, you'll find an item-by-item description. In addition to a description of each item, you'll find the source of the information behind the item, and an indicator of the year that item's information is based upon. This information is arranged in order as it appears on the front page of the current printed report card to the bottom of the report card. It does NOT follow the order of the online School Report Card Application.
Please note that there are three years of data in play: Most source data refers to the base year of the report card. However, some information, such as your school's contact information, should be current. Finally, nonacademic data is lagged one year and reports on the year prior to the base year.
For example, if you're currently working on the 2007-2008 Report Card, your CATS scores, contest results, teacher qualifications, and many other sections should refer to the 2007-2008 school year (the most recent completed year). But your school's contact information (principal, council members, About Our School, and so forth) should be as up to date as possible, meaning you would want to include information from the current school year (2008-2009). Finally, your nonacademic data will reflect the information reported about the 2006-2007 school year.

Kentucky Core Content Testing by Sub-Groups
Shows the average test scores for student sub-populations in the school in Reading and Mathematics for 2007-2008.

Kentucky Core Content Tests
Provides percentage breakdown in terms of novice, apprentice and combined proficient/ distinguished, plus academic indices for all subjects tested in the school, offering comparisons with district and state indices and NAPD percentages.

Norm-Referenced and Readiness Tests
The old national norm-referenced tests have been replaced in this year’s report card. The information in this field will depend upon the school’s grade range. At the elementary level, there will be no readiness data. At the middle and high schools, data will be provided from the administration of the EXPLORE and PLAN assessments.

Nonacademic Indicators
Provides information on average daily attendance, retention rate, dropout rate, graduation rate and transition to adult life, including percentage of graduates in college, the military, full-time work, vocational/technical training, work and part-time school and "not successful."

School Safety Data --Whether Visitors are Required to Sign In
Provides yes or no information on sign in requirements for visitors to the school.

School Safety Data--Whether All Parents Receive the District Discipline Code
Provides yes or no information on school compliance with statutory requirement that district discipline codes be sent to all parents.

School Safety Data--What Procedures are in Place for Drug and Weapons Detection
Provides a narrative of school policies and procedures in place during the base year to minimize the risk of drugs and weapons entering the school environment. (Required)

School Safety Data--The Percentage of Classrooms Able to Access an Outside Line
Provides information on the percentage of classrooms having access to an outside telephone line.

Data Detailing Safety Violations
Information detailing safety violations as reported to the School safety center. The violations include 1st degree assault, drug abuse violations, and weapons violations as described by the Center for School Safety. Detailing of violations will include numbers of incidents and numbers of students suspended or expelled for these violations.

ACT Two Year Trends for 11th grade ACT scores and Graduate ACT scores (high school)
A table showing two years of ACT data for the school, district and state based upon required 11th grade administration of ACT and 2 years of ACT data for graduate ACT administration.

Spending Per Student at the State Level
Reports the ratio of the total expenditures (current expenses as defined by the Federal government) by all districts divided by the aggregated average daily attendance from the end-of-year report.

Spending Per Student at the District Level
Reports the ratio of the total expenditures (current expenses as defined by the Federal government) for the district divided by the district aggregated average daily attendance from the end-of-year report.

Spending Per Student at the School Level
Reports the ratio of the total expenditures (current expenses as defined by the Federal government minus district level expenses) divided by the school's average daily attendance from the end of the year report.

Student/Teacher Ratio
The pupil teacher ratio is calculated using the FTE of classroom teachers reported to the Division of Finance on the Professional Staff Data (PSD) Report as of September 15 (due October 1). It uses the student membership (not enrollment) reported to the Division of Finance on the Growth Factor Report as of the end of the second school month (due November 1). Teachers shall include all regular classroom teachers, vocational teachers, and exceptional children teachers, but shall exclude administrators, counselors, librarians, and supervisors.

Students per Internet-connected Instructional Computer
Reports the ratio of students enrolled in the base year, as reported in the Superintendent's end-of-year report, to the number of Internet Connected KETS standard workstations available to students regularly in the school.

Percentage of Student Computers Five years old or less
This statistic (collected by school and district) reports the percent of student computers 5 years old or less. This number was chosen to represent a type of watershed in capabilities. These newer computers are assumed to be able to handle such important tasks as on-line testing and interaction with other rich Internet applications. Older machines, because of operating systems and limitations in capabilities are much less able to perform these tasks. Because of the difficulties in actually dating computers, determine this number by reporting the number of student computers that are Pentium III or newer (or an equivalent like MAC OS 9.4)

The Percentage of Core Academic Subject Classes NOT taught by Highly Qualified Teachers
The term “core academic subject” means (by federal statute) English, reading or language arts, mathematics, science, foreign languages, civics and government, economics, arts, history, and geography. Highly qualified teachers are determined using guidelines set forth by the Education Professional Standards Board and approved by the federal government

Average Years of Experience
Provides information on the average years of experience teaching for the teachers, both classroom and collaborative, excepting administrators, guidance counselors and media specialists.

Number of Students Whose Parent/Guardian Had at Least One Teacher Conference (Includes Individual Conferences with Parents or Guardians and Teachers or Counselors
Reports the number of students whose parents or guardians had at least one conference with either a teacher or counselor during the base year. Reports the number of students, not the number of conferences. Number cannot exceed total number of students enrolled in school.

Number of Parents or Guardians Voting in School Council (SBDM) Elections
Provides information on the number of parents or guardians participating in School Based Decision Making Council Elections. Schools not governed by a council will not input this cell. Clarifies that School Council Elections Refer to School Based Decision Making Council.

Number of Parents or Guardians Serving on the School Council (SBDM) or its Committees
Provides information on the extent of the involvement or parents or guardians in the activities of the School Based Decision Making Council and/or its committees. Schools not governed by a council may report parent involvement in school committees. Same clarification as above.
